Studies on Carrying III: u_me_e/o, 2026
Video/Sound Installation & Performance, 60 minutes
A woman is ill and rarely leaves her home. Through the internet, she begins to build a network with other chronically ill and disabled people, finding ways to carry and be carried across the distance between them. u_me_e/o follows her through a dancerly diary of sounds, gestures and fragments of everyday life, where the smallest actions acquire new weight. Drawing on crip knowledge, the work tells a story of vulnerability, invention and the difficult tenderness of needing others. It asks what becomes possible when a body must learn its world, and its ways of moving through it, all over again.
About the Project: Studies on Carrying deconstructs our social choreographies of dependency, surrender, and labor through the movement of carrying. The project translates carrying gestures that are usually hidden or illegible within private domains into public performances, texts, video installations, and sound works. The work stems from the artist’s experience undergoing cancer treatment, a period during which she had to relearn daily navigation and rewrite ideas of agency, labor, and interdependency. Drawing from crip and feminist discourses, the project unfolds in crip time, actively refusing the ableist readings so often imposed on disabled bodies.
