Studies on Carrying II: Wāc Voice, 2026
Live Performance, 50 minutes
Wāc Voice is the second case study in the artistic research “Studies on Carrying”.
The work focuses on the movement and voice of the person being carried. Choreography, music and voice come together to reveal the physical and emotional labor of a person who is dependent on another and is often perceived as a passive and weak body compared to the person who is carrying or taking care of someone.
Wāc is an Old English word and gives a glimpse into how ancestors in Europe have viewed the concept nowadays known as ‘weak’.
Wāc describes less a body that is powerless, but a body that is soft, flexible, able to yield and bend. This flexibility and softness applies to physical form but the person being able to morally and emotionally yield.
